The criticisms of the county budget are loud and clear, and the call for a sound solution is even louder. The Thurston County Commission needs a refreshed angle to settle the budget score so as to sustain jobs that fuel a quality of life and secure the delivery of local services. Many business owners and families alike are facing a tight operating budget. They are cutting expenditures but preserving their priorities. Shouldn’t the commission apply the same accounting principles? Ultimately, I would like to see Pat Beehler secure a countywide win. A private sector business man with years of leadership experience, Beehler will provide a balanced input on the commission. Beehler will bring a much-needed, citizen approach to solving our local crisis. Forget about additional fees and increased taxes. Businesses and families get nothing of the sort. They live within their means. County government should be held to the same standard. If a solution is to be found — a practical approach by candidates who know basic bookkeeping needs to be achieved. Out with inexperience — Commissioner Karen Valenzuela — and in with reason and leadership! DIANA DE LA CRUZ Tumwater Published August 27, Letters to the Editor, The Olympian |
